Hysteroscopy is a medical surgery that includes the procedure to look inside the uterus for diagnosis and treat the cause of excessive bleeding. The cervix will be dilated to insert the hysteroscope through the cervix and vagina inside the uterus. By using the hysteroscope, a liquid solution will be sent into the uterus. This will gently expand and clear mucus or blood present in the uterus. As a result, the surgeon can view the uterus, uterine lining along with fallopian tubes clearly.

After detecting abnormalities, surgical instruments will be inserted through the hysteroscope to remove irregular growths.

The doctor generally carries out a hysteroscopy on a day-case basis. This means that the patient need not have to stay overnight in the hospital. The whole procedure can take around 30 minutes.
